11:59 pm: Melbourne Symphony and Melbourne Chorale Present Verdi's Otello
After a productive first orchestral rehearsal, this email I have sent around is fitting for this entry.

Hello,

On Saturday 13 August at 8 PM, ABC Classic FM will broadcast a live performance of Verdi's opera Otello performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Chorale and some brilliant soloists along with a scene including the National Boys and Australian Girls Choirs.  This performance is in concert style and will be held at Hamer Hall (formerly the Concert Hall) Melbourne.

An offer of special ticket Prices:
MSO would like to offer friends and family of members of Melbourne Chorale a special price on tickets to the Opera in Concert (Otello) performance on Monday 15 August at Hamer Hall.

The deal is $10 tickets, best available in A-C reserve, no limit to the number that can be purchased.  The offer is available at any Ticketmaster outlet (including the Victorian Arts Centre box office), via the web
(http://www.ticketmaster7.com.au) or over the phone (1300 13 61 66).  Phone
or web transactions incur a transaction fee of around $7.

There's one other thing to know and that is that the ticket purchaser will need to give the password 'Chorale'.

A little info about Otello taken from the MSO website:
The opera is set on Cyprus in the 15th century. The Moor Otello arrives as governor with his lovely new bride Desdemona. Otello has complete faith in his ensign Iago, without realising that the man is secretly plotting his downfall. Determined to rouse Otello’s jealousy, Iago fabricates an affair between
Desdemona and Otello's platoon leader Cassio, setting in train events leading to tragedy on a grand scale.

Otello features a cast which brings together major international soloists and superb Australian artists, while featuring outstanding young Australian singers
at the beginning of their careers.

In Otello, Verdi's writing for chorus and orchestra reaches a zenith of dramatic power, which these special performances will reveal with all due splendour.

Saturday 13 and Monday 15 August at 7:30pm at the Arts Centre, Hamer Hall

A free Pre-Concert talk will be given to ticketholders at 6.15pm in the Hamer Hall foyer.
